Great and very interesting Ethiopian sounds. Here's an excerpt from the liner notes of The Very Best Of Ethiopiques 2cd compilation album: "Mahmoud Ahmed is a star of Ethiopian music, a deservedly loved vocalist of great power whose artistic mastery effortlessly spans the emotional register, delivering messages from the depths of melancholy, exuberant highs or breezy dance numbers with equal authority. From his beginnings with The Imperial Bodyguard Band, he became a mainstay for all the Ethiopian labels and producers, eventually releasing a small number of records on his own label, Mahmoud, in the mid 1970's. Like Mulatu (Astatge), he too has latterly achieved significant international recognition."
